Elementary Algebra for College Students

This elementary algebra text presents explanations to promote conceptual understanding over the repeated application of algorithms. Understanding is stressed over computational skills and emphasis is placed on modelling, problem-solving, interpretation of graphs and the communication of mathematical ideas, under the auspices of the "spiral approach". Discussion and mental exercise are included with the aim of encouraging students to forge their own links and connections.
