Description:

Recent years have seen an improved understanding of the biology of the red cell and its bounding membrane. At the same time there have been technical improvements in procedures for preparing resealed erythrocytes and new ideas for using them as carriers for drugs and as cellular bioreactors. This third international meeting on the application of resealed erythrocytes was the first in the series to be held in North America. The sessions covered the methodology of preparing resealed erythrocytes and properties of model systems, the evaluation of these carriers for delivery of immunomodulators and anti-neoplastic drugs. Several contributions also considered the potential chemical application of these techniques in human and veterinary medicine. This volume will be of interest to pharmacologists and those interested in the clinical application of this promising biotechnology.
