The purpose of this book is to understand as well as possible those who succeed in their careers and those who don't. The reader, moving from beginning to end, will be presented with an integrated set of statements about important conceptual and
empirical positions in regard to exceptional achievements. In light of the new material the structure of the book has been reorganized, and in some cases old papers have been moved to new chapters. Nonetheless, both editions represent the same basic issues, and approach the same basic problems.
