School and Society: Educational Practice As Social Expression

Part One of this text examines educational themes in the historical context in which they first appeared. Corresponding Part Two chapters return to these themes and examine them in their contemporary contexts. Throughout, the relationship between social conditions, prevailing ideologies and educational practice is stressed. Unlike most texts on foundations of education, this book integrates the concepts and perspectives from several disciplines into its analysis of the school/society relationship. Each chapter ends with an original source reading that students are asked to analyze using the same analytical, critical thinking concepts used throughout the text.
