The History of American Foreign Policy (Vol. I)

This book is a narrative and analytical history of American foreign policy from the Revolutionary era to the present. It is written for use in an upper division course on the history of U.S. Foreign Policy. The book explains the difficult interactions of the United States and other nations of the world in clear, direct, and sprightly prose. It narrates the events and policies followed by the United States but goes further to emphasize the international setting and constraints within which American policy-makers had to operate, the domestic pressures on those policy-makers, and the ideologies, preferences, and personal idiosyncrasies of the leaders themselves.
