Description:
Using his well-known gift for solving difficult design dilemmas through the art of compromise, Michael Payne describes his seven-step process for designing and achieving compromise between couples. The steps are: 1. Define the scope of the project. 2. Identify the primary function of the room. 3. Identify the secondary functions of the room. 4. Determine priorities and compromises for functionality. 5. Decide which items in the room will be legacy items (existing items that will be used after the redesign). 6. Gather samples and examples of options for anything that will not be a legacy item (includes photos, fabric samples, floor samples, paint samples, pictures from magazines, etc.), and choose materials. 7. Assemble room layouts, using functionality requirements and materials chosen. 8. Design custom furniture, if needed. The book will follow a room-by-room format, showcasing projects. Each project will include Michael’s notes, examples of how certain aspects can be incorporated into readers’ homes, as well as each client’s comments.
