Revised and updated edition (the 3rd was published in 1983 by Macmillan) of a textbook for practicing physicians, emphasizing the practical approach to common disorders. As in previous editions, the organization is guided by the way in which the various disorders present to practitioners. For this edition, Spiro has enlisted the aid of colleagues to write about half the text. Among the many new areas, the sections on physiology, previously limited, have been expanded and modernized.
