The Political Economy of National Security

This text analyzes the economic dimensions of national security. It examines the relationship between the twin objectives of power and wealth and explores how they combine to influence defence policies. A global, comparative focus is taken throughout. The USA, Europe, Japan and developing countries are all covered. Among the topics of current interest that are discussed are: the globalization of the technological base; the security implications of depending on another state for energy; and economic competition between military allies.
