Provides students with real-world experience with electronic components on which to build their theoretical understanding, without an extensive background in math or physics (only basic algebra is needed). The authors believe that by learning simplified behavioral models for nonlinear devices, rather than complex nonlinear equations, students may actually develop a better insight into the operation of electronic circuits.

An extensive series of laboratory exercises are woven into the course, centering around a small programmable robot. The lab exercise manual describes the series of experiments, but the text can be used with or without the exercises--or with a different set of lab exercises.
