This is a book about U.S. foreign policy toward the revolutionary government of Libya during the decade and more since a spottily educated, vaguely Westernized young signals captain, Muammar Qaddafi, who idolized Gamal Nasser, overthrew the frail monarch of King Idris on September 1, 1969. It is based on numerous interviews conducted over a period of two years with U.S. policymakers, diplomats, and others who were are are directly involved in Libyan, U.S. relaions.
