About the Author\nJo Ray McCuen-Metherell was born in Belgium of American parents. The family moved to Paris and then to Bern, Switzerland, where Jo Ray lived until she started college at Pacific Union College, near Napa, California. She received her B.A. from Pacific Union College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of Southern California. While teaching high school English and working on her doctorate, Jo Ray was hired to teach English and French at Glendale Community College, from which she retired in 1996.
