The historical geography of the Holy Land (The Fontana library of theology and philosophy)
Description:
First published in 1894 and revised throughout by the author for the 25th edition in 1931, The Historical Geography has been treasured ever since by scholars, travellers, students and statesmen. General Allenby studied it almost daily during his Palestine Campaign in the First World War, and the original maps played a decisive role in the drawing of the boundaries of the Mandated Territory after the war. New black and white maps have replaced the original coloured ones for reasons of cost. Otherwise the book, described by the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church (1958) as 'still unsurpassed', remains virtually unchanged.
