Este volumen IV completa la edición de los 23 libros que Zambrano dio a publicar. En sus respectivos tomos I y II recoge sus 6 últimos libros. Cuatro de ellos -Claros del bosque (1977), De la Aurora (1986), Notas de un método (1989) y Los bienaventurados (1990)- parten de un tronco común, crecido entre 1954-1974, que desarrolla la razón poética, y del que se irán desgajando estos cuatro libros, que configuran así el árbol final de este pensamiento. Ese mismo tronco común afecta también a los otros dos libros que figuran en este volumen IV: Senderos (1986) y Algunos lugares de la pintura (1989). Este tomo I recoge Claros del bosque, De la Aurora y Senderos. Los dos primeros muestran una continuidad temática desde perspectivas diferentes: la vía positiva de Claros del bosque -en ello gemelo de Notas de un método, del que no se discernió hasta 1974-, en tanto que fenomenología poética de los pasos de la integración del sujeto; y la vía negativa de De la Aurora -proseguida en Los bienaventurados-, que radicaliza la crítica cultural de Occidente, según la que vivimos en la era de la ocultación de las aguas primeras de la vida, pero cuyo reverbero permanece en el ser humano y de lo que es símbolo la aurora como antítesis del reino del sol, del puro poder. Senderos recopila Los intelectuales en el drama de España y La tumba de Antígona, por lo que se ofrece con un cuerpo de letra menor y sólo con el indispensable aparato crítico que remite a la publicación de esos dos libros, respectivamente, en los volúmenes I y III. De los otros dos libros de este tomo I se hace una completa edición crítica, a lo que se añade en De la Aurora tantola interpolación de varios textos relacionados con él, como,y al igual que en los tres libros del tomo II (Notas de un método,Algunos lugares de la pintura y Los bienaventurados), un Apéndice final con textos inéditos de Zambrano de entre 1973-1985.
