<p>From DJ flap: Blaise was born with a cleft lip and palate that severely affected his speech and appearance. Misunderstood and unable to communicate, he was judged as "slow" Many thought he was mentally retarded, different, and they expected him to lead a simple life. Yet, like everyone else, he had a dream -- to be accepted. Not offered any scholarships from a college, Blaise personally visited every major college in the Northeast until he was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Syracuse University. In 1984 he was drafted into the NFL in the second round by the Indianapolis Colts, where he earned Rookie of the Year and MVP awards. Despite career-threatening injuries and being cut by several teams, Blaise continued to play in the NFL for 11 years, earning numerous awards and a Super Bowl ring.</p>
