<p>As you read "A Parent's Guide to Raising Great Kids" by Dr. Ed Wimberly, you will no doubt notice that this book takes a somewhat different approach to parenting than many books that are on the market today. The primary purpose of this book is not to suggest ways we parents can persuade, coerce, bribe, or if all else fails þu force, our kids to be what we want them to be. Certainly, we want our kids to learn to be respectful of others, responsible, polite, ambitious, helpful around the house, and much more. Of course it is the desire and duty of any dedicated parent to do their best to help develop a healthy self- esteem in their kids, and to encourage them to grow up to be adults who have a sane and reasonable view of what they have to offer. </p>
<p>However, as an author and therapist, Dr. Wimberly believes that it is only as we look more closely at ourselves-as parents to our kids-that we will be more able and well equipped to ¡°design¡± the great, healthy, and responsible kids we want them to become. So what you will be encouraged to do here is to look at yourself and your role as parent to your kids. As you do, your self-assessment will likely help fine tune your actions and attitudes, and in turn, assist you in meeting the goal of raising great and healthy kids. The responsibility of raising great kids is an awesome task, but an exciting one, indeed!</p>
