The author takes us through many countries in Africa, first telling us something about their history. We begin in Egypt, then move west across North Africa, as the Moslems did more than 12 centuries ago. Then, we follow the author on an expedition in West Africa. We go on several safaris in Eastern and Southern Africa, sleeping in pup tents. We visit many villages and cities to learn how the people live today. We finish our African journey in South Africa, looking at Apartheid as it was and guess at South Africa's future. The author analyzes the economies of Africa and compares them with Asian countries. 
The author then takes us for a long trip across Asia. We begin in Japan, cross over to Korea, and look at much of China's fascinating culture, old and new. We then explore Vietnam and Cambodia, visiting Angkor Wat where the guns of Khymer Rouge guerrillas can be heard. We go into the hill country of Laos, visiting fascinating villages along the Mekong River. We learn more about huge Indonesia and then go up the Malay Peninsula to Thailand. Then we visit India and its surrounding countries: Burma, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. 
Next, we go to the Persian Gulf and then to Israel. The author has travelled in much of Israel, Gaza, and the Golan Heights, plus nearby Jordan, Labanon, and Syria. We examine many cultures and learn how they differ so much from cultures in North American and Europe. The author describes many anecdotes with a sense of humor. 
The author shares numerous travel hints with the reader, based upon his experiences in some 130 countries and four extensive trips around the world. This volume ends with the author's observations of major problems in the world and in the U.S.A., and what we can do to help solve them. We learn how the population explosion in this century has caused many problems as well as magnifying others. 
This work is not a guidebook of the world. There is no attempt to analyze hotels or restaurants, or particular excursions that are available. Each of us has preferences. Others may want to see other aspects of a city or country that the author missed. However, anyone planning a trip to a particular country should find it helpful to first read what the author has written here about that country. 
More people are traveling and trading abroad than ever before. Our homes are full of merchandise from all over the world. Our newspapers and TV news programs tell us what is going on in far away places. But we need an in-depth knowledge about a country to interpret those events and happenings. You can acquire knowledge about the details of many countries without taking the time and spending money to go there. Simply read this series!

In this volume the author first takes us to the SOUTH PACIFIC. We begin in the Phillipines. Bulgaria and Romania are trying to change from socialism to capitalism. We continue by land north through parts of the former Yugoslavia, to Poland. We see how some peoples are lost when the blinders of socialism were removed in various countries. After trips to all of the Scandinavian countries we compare East and West Germany. The author has become proficient in German and Italian, and fluent in Spanish and French. He has completed 14 "total immersion" language courses abroad and has lived with many families in Europe. He tells us the history of each of the countries of Europe. He describes in detail the cities and countryside of Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, and nearly all other European countries. The author hiked across England on the Coast To Coast Walk, in Scotland's Highlands, and in Germany's Black Forest and Alps. We visit most of Europe's great museums, many castles, and other tourist sites. The author compares the economics and cultures of the European Union with that of the U.S.A. In this volume the author takes us to every country in South America and Central America. The author discusses why the Catholic Church, dictators, and the military have played such an important role and how the native Amerindians have often maintained their separate cultures in many countries.  We go with the author to Inca ruins in Cuzco and Macchu Picchu, on boats on the Amazon and other rivers, to isolated jungle villages, to a ranch in Argentina, to a desert where it never rains, to the cold Andes, and to graceful dances in Latin America' cities. One of the author's visits to Chile was in 1970, shortly before the elction of socialist Allende.  Later, the author visited the war zone of Nicaragua in 1987 when Contras regularly attacked. Finally, the author takes us to our Canada.  Canadians are in many ways similar to people in the U.S.A., yet they are are proud of their differences. The author studied four summers in French-speaking universities in Quebec, while living with local families. He and his wife have also driven the Alcan Highway, and the Trans-Canada Highway from Newfoundland through Vancouver Island. They have hiked in much of the Yukon. The author looks at the future of Quebec and Canada.  This volume also describes travels in all 50 states of the U.S.A., from the point of view of a world traveler. The author describes visits to nearly all national parks, from Florida to Alaska, and California to Maine. After a capsule history of the U.S.A. in 10 pages he compares the economy and culture of the U.S.A. with that of Europe. He made a bicycle camping trip across the Southwest, and he has hiked much of the Pacific Crest Trail. The author describes many anecdotes with a sense of humor.

This book includes the complete grammar of five languages. Most of the first 83 pages have French and Italian grammar in columns on the left page, and Spanish and German grammar in columns on the right-hand page. English grammar and translations are interspersed throughout the book. The first chapter has many helpful facts in the five languages: written numbers, math, days of the week, months, colors, telephone conversations, the weather, time, how to ask questions, the use of capital letters, negatives, measurements, participles, and dialogue. Many pages have columns of adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, and articles, divided by types, in the five languages, side by side. The text explains facts about the particular part of speech, with a separate paragraph for each language. German grammar requires several extra pages of explanations. The author has analyzed and presents in simplified form the various type of pronouns in each language, side by side. A chapter explains how to write nouns in singular, plural, masculine, or feminine forms in each language. Verbs, their moods and tenses, are clearly presented. The author has prepared a separate chapter for each language. Those chapters begin with the full conjugation of regular, irregular, and other verbs, with hints to memorize their endings. The complete grammar is then analyzed, with many facts about verbs, moods and tenses, prepositions, hints on using the language, and more. We learn how to express our opinion, make suggestions, and to express any time in the past, present, or future. Hints on how to pronounce letters and words, compared with English, are given. Headings of food and drinks on a typical menu are analyzed. The author has compiled a list of words that he found to be used most often by native speakers. You can master them and sound more like a native. For fun, try the tongue twisters, speaking aloud, fast. The author has compiled a large group of idioms or slang expressions in each language. You can have fun with them. The chapter for each language ends with typical conversations, grouped by subject. They include: polite sayings, greetings and meetings, questions and using the language, banking, finding the way, letters and the post office, shopping, hair and beauty shops, medical problems, sightseeing, entertainment, emergencies, hotels, eating, and drinking. These conversations will be helpful as a phrase book for those who do not speak the language, as well as a reminder for anyone who is fluent in the language. A few letters are included, business and personal, as guides. The book has a list of more than 800 of the most common verbs in the five languages, in alphabetical English order. A list of more than 1,700 nouns in the five languages are grouped by subject matter. Subjects include: family and relatives; food, drink and eating; housing, travel and transportation; clothes, toilet articles, the body and health; business, finance and law; plants, animals and the outdoors; entertainment and sports; the post office; education and tools. This is perhaps the first book in the world to compare the grammar and vocabulary of five great languages so clearly, in an easy-to-understand side by side form. It will make learning any of the foreign languages easier. Perhaps it will whet the appetite of the reader to learn the other languages, so we can truly become "citizens of the world."
