These poems, all of them playing with the sonnet form either in traditional or experimental patterns, fall into three sections: (1) the title sequence, a 39 sonnet cycle of love sonnets, followed by a fourteen-stanza "megasonnet" called "Pat Song"; flanked by two other sections in variations on the sonnet form, (2) "At Sixes and Sevens," clustered around a tetrameter sonnet-corona, "Obsessional Cycle", and (3) "Some Freedom," with sonnets that modulate from romantic love to other subjects--friendship, the burden of art, and loss through death.
