Modeling Software with Finite State Machines: A Practical Approach explains how to apply finite state machines to software development. It provides a critical analysis of using finite state machines as a foundation for executable specifications to reduce software development effort and improve quality. This book discusses the design of a state machine and of a system of state machines. It also presents a detailed analysis of development issues relating to behavior modeling with design examples and design rules for using finite state machines.\nThis volume describes a coherent and well-tested framework for generating reliable software for even the most complex tasks. The authors demonstrate that the established practice of using a specification as a basis for coding is wrong. Divided into three parts, this book opens by delivering the authors' expert opinions on software, covering the evolution of development as well as costs, methods, programmers, and the development cycle. With his meditative landscape photographs, which have an almost calligraphic quality, Seoul-based Bae Bien-U is one of Korea's best known artists, and has influenced a generation of photographers during his many years of teaching. He first rose to prominence in his country with his series--ongoing for the past two decades--depicting pine groves, which are plentiful, as the pine is Korea's national tree, representing longevity. Beginning with a selection of images taken near Gyeongju's Silla Dynasty burial mounds, this stunning large-format volume assembles images from the entire series, which were shot exclusively in natural light, both day and night. Natural effects like fog and filtered sunlight add to the expressionistic quality of the images, which recall Western Romanticism but reflect a characteristically Korean visual vocabulary. This volume is published concurrently with an exhibition at London's Phillips de Pury &amp; Company.

The photographs of In Sook Kim (born 1969 in South Korea) examine how we give meaning to the rooms we live in, how we use furniture, décor, television, computers, sex, alcohol and pharmaceuticals in our futile attempts to fill inner voids--and how those rooms reflect these voids back at us. Kim's Edward Hopper-esque settings are constructed with a loving attention to detail, and lit with an eerie glow, so that they function as deliberately artificial mini-theatres in which human subjects seem intrusive or uneasy, perhaps imprisoned by society's designation of Saturday night as party night. These works were recently exhibited at New York's Gana Art Gallery, to much acclaim.
