Musculoskeletal pain disorders are a major cause of human suffering, healthcare expenses, and lost productivity, yet conventional treatments for these disorders often have high rates of inefficacy and iatrogenesis in addition to their high costs. Education is needed to improve prevention, assist physicians in developing strategies for pain conditions, and provide an integrated, evidence-based model of care that includes not only drugs and surgery, but also manual therapies, nutritional and dietary approaches, botanical medicines, and acupuncture.
