The Lewis &amp; Clark expedition is part of our national heritage. Their story is our story and much more exciting than is commonly taught in school. The story is historical fiction. It does, however, follow the true events of the expedition closely. The fiction is in the dialogue used to make the scenes seem more real and to keep the story moving. 
It was written to give the reader a love of the story and hopefully to generate a curiosity to read more about the expedition.
