A wealth of research and literature exists on instructional strategies designed to teach chained tasks in community settings. Community-Based Instructional Support offers practical guidelines for applying instructional strategies for adults who are learning community-based tasks. This book provides a sequenced strategy for a) selecting person-centered instructional goals, b) developing quality task analyses of community-based, chained tasks, c) selecting instructional strategies and environments that promote generalization and maintenance while respecting the dignity of the learner, and d) collecting "user-friendly" data for making decisions. In addition, readers are given a checklist of considerations to use when developing their own community-based instruction for chained tasks. The strategies presented have been researched and validated for use with people with mental retardation needing varying levels of supports.
