During the twenty-five years it has been our privilege to study the Bible over the radio, we have set aside an occasional broadcast for the answering of questions that have arisen in the minds of those who “listened in" to these messages. This book contains some of the questions asked and answered during this period. We have endeavored to bring all questions under the lens of Holy Writ, so that Scripture might interpret Scripture. We give thanks to God for the many we have been privileged to see delivered from skepticism and doubt to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, and to faith in the Bible as God’s inspired and infallible Word. We are also deeply thankful to God for all those who have made this radio ministry possible, and for its preservation in permanent form through the printed page. Concerning these “Bible Questions Explained” let us remember our Lord’s own words: “If any man willeth to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God” (John 7:17). That the Holy Spirit may take the things of Christ and show them unto us, as we study these pages, is our prayer.

<p>REVELATION, the book of the consummation of all things, is a closed book to multitudes of Christians. This should not and need not be. We are responsible for every part of the Word of God, as it was written for our admonition. Two distinct blessings are recorded within the book: “Blessed is he that readeth,” and “blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of this book.” The symbolic language is often given as a reason for this neglect. Dr. Talbot tells us that within the Word itself we are given the key to the symbols used, so that “those who neglect it are without excuse.” Christians will welcome this thorough, comprehensive study. Much that is seemingly vague and inconsistent will be cleared up as you follow step by step through the divisions given, comparing Scripture with Scripture. Although their symbolism differs, the prophecies of Daniel and those of Revelation contain much that is identical. They are mutually revealing, and Dr. Talbot explains the correspondence between them. Says the Moody Monthly: “The book abounds in sound prophetic teaching of the conservative school with much helpful inspirational and devotional application. There is a clear, simple but complete chart of the prophetic plan of the ages.”</p>

WHEN God told Moses to build the tabernacle in the wilderness, according to the pattern which He showed him in the mount, He said: “Speak unto the children of Israel . . . And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them” (Exodus 25:2, 25:8). When the inspired apostle explained the spiritual significance of this, God's dwelling place among His people, Israel, He said to the Hebrew Christians: “We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man” (Hebrews 8:1-2). These words from the New Testament not only give us the Holy Spirit's commentary on the meaning of the tabernacle in the wilderness; but they are the key that unlocks a vast treasure of spiritual truth regarding the “earthly sanctuary” which Moses built, in order that God might dwell among His people. If we would understand the New Testament teaching concerning this Jewish tabernacle, which was “a shadow of good things to come” (Hebrews 10:1), we should compare the Exodus record with the Epistle to the Hebrews, especially chapters eight and nine, which deal with the tabernacle in particular, though primarily with the ministry of Christ, our Great High Priest, in “the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” This comparison of the Old Testament with the New will unfold to us “The Glories of Christ As Foreshadowed in the Jewish Tabernacle.” Yea, it will reveal to us the wonders of the prophetic Scriptures, wherein the Holy Spirit “testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow” (1Peter 1:11). In connection with the typical significance of the Jewish tabernacle, we have one of the many clear proofs that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed; whereas the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. Jehovah of the Old Testament is Jesus of the New. And the Triune God gave to Israel the tabernacle, the priesthood, and the offerings, in order that sinful man might recognize the promised Saviour, and understand the significance of His mission and death.

It was at the urgent request of my radio listeners that in 1937 I put into printed form the lessons on the Book of Daniel which I had been broadcasting over a period of months. God so signally blessed their distribution that a second printing was called for in 1940 and now it appears a third edition is required. As I have gone over these pages in preparation for this reprint, my heart has been deeply impressed with the tremendous change in the world picture during the brief period which has intervened since the lessons were first published. I am not a “date setter” as this exposition plainly bears testimony, but I would be blind and faithless if I could not discern in the swiftly-moving events of our day ample indications that the “time of the end” cannot be far off. Surely the words of Luke 21:28 are for us today: “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Therefore, it is with the prayer that the Holy Spirit may use this series of lessons to teach what “God hath spoken” concerning things to come that we enter upon this study and send forth these lessons, trusting Him for an abundant harvest of souls through these printed pages. — Louis T. The Prophecies of Daniel: In the Light of Past, Present and Future Events

To visit Petra, that incredible rose-colored ruin of antiquity, mysteriously concealed from this modern world in a remote rocky basin of Trans-Jordania, between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, had been my ambition for years. This desire was deepened by travel reports I had heard and read and by pictures I had seen, but, most of all, by an intensive study of the Word of God in which it seemed to me that Petra held a strategic spot both in fulfilled and unfulfilled prophecy. So when on a recent missionary survey for the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, my travels took me in that direction, and I was permitted not only to behold with my own eyes that astonishing site, but also to photograph it for missionary purposes, my delight and gratitude knew no bounds. It was the fulfillment of a cherished dream.
