COMPUTATIONAL PHYSICS

<p>The book contains lecture notes of 4 different courses: Mathematical Physics, Classical Mechanics, Classical Electrodynamics, and Solid State Physics. That on Mathematical Physics covers vector analysis, Fourier transform, Dirac delta, Gamma, Beta functions, Laplace transform, special functions and complex analysis. There is an appendix containing thorough and complete calculations leading to expressions for gradient, divergence, Laplacian and curl in spherical polar and cylindrical coordinate systems. That on Classical Mechanics has completely elucidated Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of Newtonian Mechanics. Simple pendulum or simple harmonic oscillator has been used to illustrate methods of calculation wherever applicable. There is an appendix containing thorough and complete calculations leading to expressions for Lagrangian and Hamiltonian function of a charged particle in an electric and a magnetic field. That on Classical Electrodynamics covers electrostatics and magnetostatics before taking up electrodynamics. That on Solid State Physics covers 6 chapters, namely, behavior of electron in solid, dielectrics, magnetism, superconductivity, optical properties of solids, semiconductor. The book can be used as Lecture Notes without any modification at all. Undergraduate students will benefit from getting a book that can be used as a study guide. LECTURE NOTES ON PHYSICS

<p>The Physics and 5 experiments of some electronic devices are documented in this book like never before (to our knowledge). The experiments are on room temperature I-V characteristics of npn Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) C828 in Common Base (CB) and in Common Emitter (CE) configurations, and of n channel Junction Field Effect transistor (n-JFET) 2N 5457 in Common Source configuration. The other 2 experiments are on design and construction of Common Emitter Amplifier using npn BJT with voltage divider bias and on temperature dependent I-V characteristics of an undoped bulk bar of semiconductor crystal. The book will be a great aid in teaching and learning of undergraduate students of Physics major.</p>

SOLID STATE DEVICE PHYSICS

The book is intended for graduate students of Engineering, Mathematics and Physics. We have numerically solved Hyperbolic and Parabolic partial differential equations with various initial conditions using Finite Difference Method and Mathematica. Replacing derivatives by finite difference approximations in these differential equations in conjunction with boundary conditions and initial conditions lead to equations relating numerical solutions at various position and time. These relations are intricate in that numerical value of the solution at one particular position and time is related with that at several other position and time. We have surmounted the intricacies by writing programs in Mathematica 6.0 that neatly provide systematic tabulation of the numerical values for all necessary position and time. This enabled us to plot the solutions as functions of position and time. Comparison with analytic solutions revealed nearly perfect match in every case. We have demonstrated conditions under which the nearly perfect match can be obtained even for larger increments in position or time.
