a regular creative workspace is a serious consideration for every individual poet and artist. solitude and a feeling of freedom are important to allow them to successfully focus on a subject and engage in contest with their elusive creative muse. the rosetta café in calumet, michigan, is the current writing “place” of t. kilgore splake. the rosetta café is the latest of several previous coffee shops that have served as a studio and the source of inspiration for his work. writings in the shoe music press rosetta café chapbook are about the people splake observes at the café during his regular early morning visits. his poems are often judgmental and unflattering. however, a careful reading of them will reflect an honest edgy picture of their day-to-day personal lives. truly, the “graybeard poet’s aging dream” reflects a past that clashes with the present, one that seems filled with tourists and those “too young to know real ghosts.” includes many full-color photographs by the author.
