An Uncommon Field is a celebration and a unique interpretation of the Flight 93 Temporary Memorial that sprang up after 9/11 at the crash site near Shanksville, PA. The dramatic, evocative black-and-white photographs capture the power and magic of this special place as well as the unplanned beauty of the arrangements of personal items that visitors felt compelled to leave behind. In addition, brief prose meditations provide background information on the site and the events of that fateful day, and tell the stories of the author's experiences as he took the photographs over a two-year period in all seasons and weathers. The book is a testament and tribute to the heroes of Flight 93 as well as to the outpourings of support and American spirit from those who came to pay their respects to what happened here. Though the temporary memorial was dismantled in 2009 to make way for the permanent National Memorial, its spirit lives on in this book of uncommon beauty.

The purpose is to outfit the engines with iron plate and the newly developed Gatlin Guns, and, with Morgan, deliver the war engines to General Lee’s army in Central Pennsylvania. Amid Walker’s growing involvement with Lyle’s wife Libby, deserting soldiers, and Reid’s own agenda, Walker learns Morgan isn’t coming. The novel reaches its climax with Lyle trying to sabotage the war engines. Walker must decide between Libby and duty toward his men, the war and individual human values.

A BOOK OF DAYS is the story of a book, The Journal of Thomas Keating-the days when it was written, and the subsequent days when it changed the lives of those who touched it. We first see the book as a plaything for two children on a Western Pennsylvania iron plantation in the early 1800s, who use the ancient language of the book in their games of sexual awakening. We see the book in the same location in 1776, when a young woman brings the book written in Gaelic to a survivor of a massacre that occurred here, to help her understand the fate of her mother. And we see, at the heart of the novel, the writer of the book, an ensign of the Black Watch, as he seeks refuge in a blockhouse he fears is surrounded by Indians, recounting his journey upriver with a band of misfits to discover the fate of the outpost's lost command.
