Jahrhunderts wurde zugeben, an die Existenz von Damonen zu glauben. Vor 500 Jahren sah das ganz anders aus: Die Bevolkerung des Mittelalters und der Fruhen Neuzeit war vom Vorhandensein von Teufeln, Hexen und deren damonischen Gehilfen uberzeugt. Wetterdamonen brachten Unwetter, Missernten und Feuersbrunste, Krankheitsdamonen rafften die Bevolkerung hinweg, Damonen qualten arme Seelen in der Holle und verfuhrten Menschen zur Sunde. Dass diese Widrigkeiten nicht nur auf Geheiss des Teufels, sondern noch dazu mit Duldung Gottes geschehen konnten, machte die damonische Bedrohung allgegenwartig.
