In this report, RAND researchers assess the potential future production levels, production costs, greenhouse gases, and other environmental implications of synthetic crude oil from oil sands and fuels produced via coal liquefaction relative to conventional petroleum-based transportation fuels. The findings indicate the potential cost-competitiveness of these alternative fuels and potential economic-environmental trade-offs from their deployment.

In 2008, U.S. and Iraqi forces defeated an uprising in Sadr City, a district of Baghdad with ~2.4 million residents. Coalition forces’ success in this battle helped consolidate the Government of Iraq’s authority, contributing significantly to the attainment of contemporary U.S. operational objectives in Iraq. U.S. forces’ conduct of the battle illustrates a new paradigm for urban combat and indicates capabilities the Army will need in the future.

Students will then have the opportunity to engage in active, "hands on" learning by working through a stand alone exercise that simulates a real life legal dilemma. The exercises are as authentic as possible, incorporating materials such as client interview videos, convenience account agreements, sales contracts, deeds, property descriptions and photos, variance applications, zoning regulations, and homeowner association bylaws. The self assessment tool included at the end of each chapter suggests ways that a practicing attorney might have approached each exercise. It is not meant to provide "the answer", but to identify issues and strategies students should have considered in order to effectively represent a client.
