All appear to be parts of a disturbing and dangerous puzzle relating to two murders that occurred at Montauk Cove near where Lilli found the wine. If she can survive and uncover the mystery of the treasure, Lilli vows to finally find time for the mystery closer to her heart: Zack Faraday.

Lilli Masters has a choice: join her brother in Peru to photograph butterflies or join Zack Faraday, the love of her life, in Daytona Beach, Florida, to photograph Harley Davidson bikers. Picking up where the relationship left off in Grayrocks, Long Island, Zack and Lilli head to Florida under the pretense of a married couple visiting his sister. However, Detective Zack Faraday is there undercover to investigate the whereabouts of Benjamin Voda, a cold-blooded killer who is wanted in New York City. Zack is also in Florida to patch up his relationship with his sister, who is confined to a wheelchair after an accident. Almost immediately, a ruthless crew of men begins stalking and threatening Zack, Lilli, and all their new friends in Florida. They find themselves swept up in the unusual yet dangerous world of bikers, orchid collectors, alligators, and murder.

From the Author Following the advice "Write about what you know," I set The Montauk Mystery in the fictional town of Grayrocks, Long Island, very similar to Greenport, the town where I grew up. That gave me the familiar ambience of a seaside resort town where people worked hard and played hard, usually near the water. Greenport also had a history dating back hundreds of years. Looking for plot ideas, I researched countless sources about Greenport and the surrounding area. The information I found about the Montauk native people, scant as it was, brought back many fond memories.Growing up, my friends and I knew a few Montauk words, like the names of surrounding towns. We knew wampum was made from oyster shells. (We used to play among the oyster piles at the end of Fifth Street.) We found arrowheads in the bay where we swam and on the beaches where we played.As I researched, the Montauk people's place in Long Island history and the legends about them intrigued me. A plot began to form. I created Annie Devane, a local artist, knowledgeable about the Montauk culture.
