Moving down the Bataan Peninsula we learn how cruel the Japanese can be. Our medics are targets, our hospitals bombed, my buddies killed for no reason. We have stopped their capturing Manila for four months. Now they are getting even. The guards kill the marchers, dismbowel them, and throw their bodies in the ditch with their comrades and the coolies. We dare not leave the road or we will be executed. We quickly learn the word "speedo".
