<p>In 1673, French explorers, Father Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet first discovered the image of the Piasa (Pie-a-saw) Bird high upon the limestone bluffs near Alton, IL.  The Piasa Bird, an Illini Indian painting, has become an icon of the region and local legend revered by many.  This story is told for children and grandchildren so that generations can remember the legend.</p>
