The old "junior high" many Americans remember is fast becoming a relic of the past. Schools organized as grades seven to nine have rapidly dropped in number over the past 25 years as schools organized as grades 6 to 8 have become the places where most young adolescents ages 10 to 15 go to school. More and more middle schools are trying to provide environments, curricula, and instruction that fit well with young adolescents' developmental characteristics. And yet, despite progress, too many adolescents feel boxed in and bored in their middle schools. This book explores new and different ideas for teaching and reaching young middle schoolers.
