44 Low-resolution Houses presents a series of houses through a double technological and representational-aesthetic lens. All 44 houses collected here fall into one or more of the following categories of low-resolution: first, houses that vaguely resemble houses, using familiar low-res house elements like pitched roofs, chimneys, windows, doors, porches, etc.; second, houses that appear to be constructed in a low-res manner, in that one can see the construction, joints, and materials, and have a sort of cheap unfinished quality; and third, houses that are composed of low-res organization with basic geometric primitives squares, circles, and triangles arranged in a non-compositional or abstract manner. By these using these terms, low-resolution is in contrast to high-resolution architectural sophistication, gestural complex curvature, bodily organic figuration, and architectural paradigms focused on seamlessness and integrated smoothness. 44 Low-resolution Houses was exhibited at Princeton University School of Architecture from 09/11/2018 to 11/09/2018. The exhibition catalog was edited by Michael Meredith, with a foreword by Dean Mónica Ponce de León. It was designed by MOS and Studio Lin, with photographs by Michael Vahrenwald/Esto.

Log 22: The Absurd gets serious about the seemingly irrational side of architecture. Guest edited by Michael Meredith of MOS, this special thematic issue identifies the funny, ugly, contradictory, and more fuzzy realms of architecture, disavowing the purported orderliness of disciplinary presumptions to uncloak the implausibility at its core (maybe even its origin) and present new possibilities for experimentation. Sketches, tweets, a book of exorcisms, a comic, and a special DVD are presented alongside critical and provocative essays on hoarding, disaster, failure, and bowlers (as in hats). Log 22 features: Sylvia Lavin on architecture's accommodation of hoarding; Jacques Ranciere on the conundrums of art and life; and Lucia Allais on Superstudio's 'Salvages of Italian Historic Centers,' a 1974 project presented here for the first time in English. Also in the issue: Mark Jarzombek on Bruno Taut's attack of seriousness; David Foster Wallace on Kafka's funniness; Amanda Reeser Lawrence on the self-influence of James Stirling; Caroline O'Donnell on Karl Rosenkranz's aesthetic of ugliness; and K. Michael Hays and Marrikka Trotter on fictions in recent architecture. From the economic to the political, from public health to the climate, models seem to run the world. In architecture, the model is no longer just a physical tool for conceptualizing or representing architects' visions but must also encompass digital and 3D-printed models, data and artificial intelligence models, business models, educational models, and even engage the discipline's own questionable history in establishing role models.
