Why Am I Me? introduces children to the concepts of genes and DNA, and to the complex reality of their influence on us. The overall message is that, yes, genes influence who we are-at times, profoundly. Ultimately, however, each of us shapes much of who we are through our life experiences and choices. Identical twins Carly and Chloe learn this lesson during the year between their fifth and sixth birthdays. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Michael J. Malinowski is a graduate of Tufts University, summa cum laude, and Yale Law School, where he was an Article Editor for the Yale Law Journal. Michael is the Ernest R. and Iris M. Eldred Endowed Professor of Law and the Lawrence B. Sandoz Jr. Endowed Professor of Law at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University. He has published more than fifty books, law review articles, and other scholarship on biotechnology research and development, health care, and bioethics. He also has lectured on these topics throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. A primary focus in Michael's present work is the treatment and education of children through the discipline of applied behavior analysis. ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR: Michelle Montrose is a passionate and innovative artist living in San Diego, California, where she was born and raised. She graduated cum laude with a bachelor of fine arts from San Diego State University in 2015, and continues to take classes at adult schools around the city. She works primarily in oils, but enjoyed working in a mixture of gouache and watercolor to create the illustrations for this book.
