<p>"À Votre Portée" is an introductory reader for university students at the intermediate/advanced levels of French.  It is designed especially for students who have learned French under a communicative approach - that is, where emphasis has been on meaning, and where students have been encouraged to use French to express their own ideas on topics that are important to them.  The primary goal of "À Votre Portée" is to help students acquire reading skills that will enable them to enjoy and appreciate unedited texts in French.  It contains short stories and poems by nineteenth- and twentieth-century authors from various francophone countries.  Because the texts have not been abridged or simplified in any way, they can be read and studied in any order.  In addition to questions inserted within the texts, there are several sections accompanying each text that will help students thoroughly probe and understand what they have read.</p>
