Any commentator on these books has to meet the daunting challenge of history, chronology, and archeology, as well as theology. It is practically impossible in a single work to treat all of these areas exhaustively, so that an author has to be selective. In the pages of this volume the reader will notice that while the historical story line of 1 and 2 Kings has been carefully followed, adequate but less space has been given to matters of chronology and archaeology.
