The sculptures of Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne are in their different ways unique. Artiste plasticien suisse – 1902-1985 - créateur de mobilier et d’objets, Diego Giacometti, collabore durant de longues années avec son frère le sculpteur Alberto Giacometti. En 1929, au Salon des Indépendants, il rencontre avec son Alberto, Jean-Michel Frank qui les invite à concevoir des objets pour sa boutique, luminaires, vases et petit mobilier qu’ils réalisent ensembles. Il en sera de même pour Elsa Schiaparelli. A partir des années 60, l’essentiel de ses créations est réalisé pour des clients privés, Hubert de Givenchy, Aimée Maeght, Pierre Matisse… Au début des années 80, lors de l’installation du musée Picasso à Paris, à l’Hôtel Salé, Il reçoit une commande de l’Etat pour la conception d’un ensemble de meubles et de luminaires, réalisés dans ses matériaux de prédilection, le bronze et le plâtre. Il est assisté par Philippe Anthonioz. D’une exceptionnelle poésie, l’univers de même que le style de Diego Giacometti est aisément reconnaissable : le bronze est souvent à patine verte, le plâtre laissé à l’état naturel, les lignes sont fortes et nerveuses, travaillées en motifs végétaux, avec des décors à figures d’animaux. Sans prétendre à l’exhaustif, ce livre, présente néanmoins une part très importante de l’œuvre de Diego Giacometti. Célébré comme étant l’un des meilleurs spécialistes de l’artiste, Daniel Marchesseau, en fait l’exégèse et s’attarde sur le travail de l’un des créateurs de meubles les plus singuliers du XXeme siècle, internationalement reconnue.
