In this second novel in the ‘Dan Mallett' series, he finds himself up against a big-time heavyweight criminal from the city. He is trapped in a farmhouse with a pretty girl and two old ladies and has to use all of his countryside skills to avoid violence at the hands of the heavy ‘mob'. This novel is fast moving and the trap is very skilfully worked out.

A table was upturned near the body; things kept on the table were scattered all over the stone floor of the hall. A hole was blasted in the body's chest. The face was unmarked. It stared upwards in death. It was a very handsome face, blond, arrogant. It was Piet Vandervelde, come to abduct his child. Roger Longrigg once again thrills the reader with a well- conceived and exciting story.
