Within these pages are a collection of essays Kadashan has written for the Juneau Empire, the capital city of Alaska's newspaper; his column was called Kadashan's Corner. He wrote his column for 6 years and served 12 years as the elected tribal president of the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe. He writes about the U.S. and Alaska tribal governments.The premise of Kadashan's essays is focused on the Natural Law. He discusses how the Founding Fathers based the Constitution of the United States on the laws of nature and the laws of God. He also tells about how the Native American knew, understood, and lived the Natural Law. In the essay Native American Influence he informs readers about how the Founding Fathers used the concepts of the Iroquois nation to structure the federal government. Find out how the Indian Nation was pondered by the Founders to be the 14th colony and why it didn't happen. The book is divided into four parts: Native American Influence, the Natural Law, tthe Alaska Native Brotherhood, and reclaiming our power as true blooded Americans.In his capacity as a tribal president, Kadashan actively participated in self- governance conferences throughout the United States, and was able to rub elbows with prominent tribal leaders as well as people in the governmental agencies. Kadashan used his experience and knowledge as a tribal leader to pen his thoughts about tribal governments and their relationship with the federal government. He writes about how the Native American leader's progressed through promoting their own initiatives to advance more self-governance for themselves. Kadashan has strong opinions about the political arena in America, and many of his essays talk about why America is struggling politically, economically and socially, and what needs to be done to get back on track. He proves in his work, such as his essay called Where Does Goodness Come From that our country's dilemmas are spiritual and morale ones. In his essays, Socialism and The Effects of Socialism in America his purpose in these narratives is to bring to our remembrance why our country is being lead toward the road to socialism. Kadashan is retired as a commercial fisherman and his tribal government responsibilities. He lives in Yakutat, Alaska with his wife where he now spends more of his time now writing.

Herein is a collection of short stories about a Tlingit village in Southeast Alaska. The stories are illustrated with the author’s water color paintings. In these stories, and images, you will pick up a little about the geography of the region as well as the history, culture and the values of the Tlingit peoples in the village of Yakutat, Alaska. One of the themes in these stories, Kadashan is able to tell how his people can live in two worlds, but still remain Tlingit. In the three part story “The World Forgetting by the World Forgot” seventeen year old Arnie Jones, after his father’s passing, is forced to take over leadership of the family commercial fishing business. This was a time in his life when he was trying to find his identity---should he take the time discover his ancestral roots, or give up his identity in favor of a western education? In “Something to Give”, set on a fishing camp on the Aalseix River, newlyweds know love, but don’t know how to express it. High school graduates in “The Tale of Three Seal Hunters” are faced with the decision of whether they should join the military or stay home and relearn their hunting skills. In “Lifeblood” we learn how three siblings are faced with the responsibility of catching enough salmon to sell the last few days of the a bad commercial fishing season to pay for a heart bypass operation for their mother. It is in the fall and the weather is changing from bad to worse. The resiliency of these youngsters is due to the way they had been raised by their parents and grandparent, something that is missing in America today. The challenges the characters face in these stories are everyday situations one would find anywhere in the world: Young love, health concerns, financial security, human longings, grief and personal conflicts are subjects that the author tries to share with the world about a small Alaskan settlement. They also face the challenge of taking advantage, or not so, about the short, summer salmon runs--- If they succeed then they can have resources to sustain their lives; if they don’t meet their goals the long winter months will be very lean. These stories, and art work, Kadashan describes how western influence and traditional beliefs and values are incorporated into their modern lives.

For six years Kadashan wrote a column for the Juneau Empire, the major newspaper for the capital city of Alaska, From a Native American Perspective--Kadashan Speaks about the Law of Nature and Natures' God; these are essays based on a compilation of some of the writings that appeared in the monthly column. Others are from his website www.kadashan.simplesite.com and www.kadashan37.com. Kadashan is his Tlingit name and he lives in a small village in the southeastern part of Alaska. He was named after his great grandfather who guided the world traveler John Muir through the inside passage of Southeast Alaska into Glacier Bay. Kadashan was born in Sitka, Alaska but makes his home in Yakutat where he grew up as a commercial fisherman. He obtained his formal education at Yakutat and Sitka, Alaska, Holland, Michigan and attended Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He self-published two books: WHEN RAVEN CRIES and a short story collection called THIS IS YAKUTAT. His political commentaries are included in this book and in Kadashan Speaks, Legal Plunder. Kadashan was fortunate to serve as the elected President of the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe for twelve years. Here he learned about the functions of tribal governments and their relationship with the federal government from which many of these essays are founded. Kadashan means Red Tide Coming. When the red tide is seen in the bays of Alaska it is a warning that people should not eat shellfish during this time. The red tide has poisonous elements in that will cause immediate death if consumed. In this work he warns the American people about the consequences of drifting away from the Law of Nature and Nature's God.

Legal Plunder is practiced extensively in our governmental systems, more so today, than any other time in the history of the world. Legal Plunder is when illegal matters are made legal by our government leaders. It is practiced in all three branches of our federal system. Frederick Bastiat was a French statesman and economist who lived in the mid 1800's. He was concerned that France was turning more and more into a socialistic nation which, he believed, would eventually translate to communism. Over a hundred years ago he wrote this book called THE LAW, from which I take many of my opinions in this treatise. According to Bastiat legal plunder is when the government takes from the "haves" and gives to the 'have nots." So is "distributing the wealth" a right, or was the power to tax by the federal government envisioned by the Founding Fathers---and what about The Affordable Tax Act? Along with these many leaders believe that we are turning more and more of our responsibilities from local state over to the federal government. In essence, we as citizens, are encouraging the government to engage in legal plunder. I also believe that when we practice legal plunder that we are leading our nation toward socialism. Some modern day leaders believe, including myself, is that socialism is communism in disguise.
