The photographs in this book were taken at the turn of the last century by local photographers, who set their cameras up on tripods in the fields and marshes, on the shores and in the villages of Orient and East Marion, on the easternmost tip of Long Island's North Fork. They recorded innumerable scenes that would be all but unknown today without their perseverance and artistic tendencies. Photographers whose work is featured includes William Steeple Davis, James W. Kent, and L. Vinton Richard.
