The first full English translation of "Dictionnaire Infernal" by Jacques Auguste Simon Collin de Plancy (1793-1887). As the title suggests, the book is an encyclopedic work of demonology, superstitions, folklore, mythology and theology. De Plancy follows the tradition established by grimoires like "The Lesser Key of Solomon" in naming the various demons and itemizing the legions and hierarchies to which they belong, as well as documenting a variety of occult figures. A French-born author, occultist and demonologist, de Plancy lived in Belgium and France, where he worked as a printer and publisher. The "Dictionnaire Infernal" was first published in 1818 and subsequently went through a number of editions until its sixth and final edition of 1863. The final edition was the most comprehensive, and was the first to include the now-famous series of demonic portraits by M. L. Breton, which later became synonymous with the work. This handsome two volume boxed set comprises a full English translation of the 6th edition, with added notes, digitally enhanced reproductions of the 500+ original woodcuts that appeared in it.
