The Vril Society, or Luminous Lodge, was a secret community of occultists in pre-Nazi Berlin. The Berlin Vril Society was in fact a sort of inner circle of the Thule Society, it was also in close contact with an English group known as the Golden Dawn. The Vril Society in Berlin apparently sought connection with supernatural beings in the entrails of the earth, and its members practiced the techniques which would eventually strengthen their mastery of the divine energy, the Vril, empowering them to master people and events. The term "Vril" came to the attention of the Western world through the writings of a not well known French author, Louis Jacolliot (1837-1890). Jacolliot was an avid reader of occult literature, and was familiar with the work of Swedenborg, of the theosophist Jacob Böhme and of Louis Claude de Saint Martin. In the course of his professional career Jacolliot had been president of the tribunal at Chandernagor, India, and afterwards French consul in Calcutta. The works of Jacolliot have inspired several writers and occultists, among them Rudyard Kipling and H.P. Blavatsky. Among Jacolliot's many books are: La Bible dans l'Inde ou la Vie de Iezeus Christna (1859); Les Fils de Dieu (1873); Christna et le Christ (1874); Les Traditions indo-européennes (1876); La Genèse de l'humanité (1879); and L'Olympe brahmanique (1881). The main theme in his books is that modern civilizations were originated from a single, primordial nucleus, which was the same for India, western Asia, and Europe. The Semitic and indo-European races were not different at the beginning, but the Semitic races degenerated in the process, while the Aryans remained pure. A code of law rules civilized people, the Code of Manu, name of the divine ruler in India, while in Egypt he was called Menes, Moses among the Hebrews, and Minos in Crete. According to Jacolliot, Jesus Christ is but a recent reconstruction of an old indo-aryan tradition, that of Iezeus-Christna. Jesus of Nazareth is only a different characterization of the same personage. North of Europe a magic civilization has existed for millennia and its name is Thule. The superior beings of Thule live in huge caverns in the entrails of the earth. They possess an extraordinary source of magic energy: the Vril. The theme of the Vril is exalted in most of Jacolliot's writings. Vril is an energy latent in man, but he utilizes only a fraction of it. It is the source of divinity, the source of the coming superman. He who discovers it and masters its use acquires great powers. He can become a master of men. In many of his works, particularly in Les Fils de Dieu, and in Les Traditions indo-européenes, Jacolliot affirms that he discovered the existence of Vril among an Indian sect: the Jains, still active in the regions of Mysore and Gujerat, and counting millions of adepts. The discovery of Vril by Jacolliot created extraordinary interest among European intellectuals, avid of knowledge about traditional oriental wisdom. Inspired by his writings a group of Rosicrucians from Berlin founded, by the end of the 19th century, the Vril Society to divulge the writings of the French master. Jacolliot's ideas were introduced in England by S.L. Matthews at the Golden Dawn Society, of which he was the Great Master. With the passage of time, apparently the term Vril fell in disuse. Interest on Vril was renewed after it was used again in a novel with occult and prophetic overtones, The Coming Race , written by the Baron Edward Bulwer-Lytton. Bulwer-Lytton was an English writer and occultist better known as the author of the best seller The Last Days of Pompeii. In The Coming Race he describes the existence of a superhuman race of beings living in huge caves in the entrails of the earth. The first hint I had about the possible existence of an actual race of tall, strong, and intellectually sophisticated people, was in researching old township and county records. Many of these were quoting from old diaries and letters that were combined in the 1800’s from diaries going back to the 1700s. The title pages of the early county and pioneer history books often included phrases like “carefully written and compiled” and “lest we forget.” Sometime before archaeology came to subscribe the general public to its view of prehistory: generations prior to Darwin’s troublesome theory, the pioneers thought that some of the earthworks were as ancient as could be concurrent with human habitation in America. Some among the early settlers exercised their pens assured that the earthworks were not built by the direct ancestry of the native people living in the historical period, but rather were constructed in a more remote era encompassing a different social order. They compared the “Mound Builders,” with the “Indians,” clearly discerning the former as belonging to an earlier time, possessing a different fate or destiny from the latter. Evidence for the occupation of this country before the appearance of the red man is to be found in many states throughout this country, as well as throughout the world. In removing the gravel bluffs, which are numerous and deep, for the construction and repair of roads, and in excavating cellars, hundreds of human skeletons, some of them of giant form, have been found. A female citizen of Marion County estimates that there were about as many human skeletons in the Knolls of Marion County, Ohio as there are white inhabitants at present! (The History of Marion County, Ohio, compiled from past accounts, published in 1883). Amazing finds were also made in California about 1810 and in Montana in 1924. One was that of a six-toed giant, the other was the skull of a man found 130 feet deep in a lava-covered mine. A human molar embedded in an Eocen coal measure was found in November 1926 in No. 3 Eagle Coal Mine at Bear-creek, Montana, and in strata anywhere between thirty and seventy-five million years old. An amazing skull—of a giant man with double rows of teeth all and massive jaws was found on Santa Rosa Island in the Santa Barbara Channel, California. It has a singular tie-in with the statement in the old Babylonian Talmud, called the Berakthoth, that the giants before the Great Deludge had double rows of teeth! Many of these discoveries were made early in the nineteenth century, and in one case where a giant man’s skeleton was exhumed by soldiers at Lampock Rancho, California, the Roman Catholic padre ordered the skeleton to be reburied because the local folk swore it was the skeleton of a god. These remains were often discovered accompanied by cemented gravel six feet thick lying under volcanic ash—the sign of an ancient cataclysm—ancient metal skillets, beautifully made plummets of syenite, strange inscriptions on ancient artifacts, sea shells lined on the inside with gold and worked with unknown inscriptions, carved blocks of porphyry engraved with hieroglyphs, hieroglyphs on hard rocks covered with iron scale, queer slate tubes and cylinders, and well-made pestles and mortars. All of these, of course, are evidence of ancient civilizations.

In 1963, the story goes, the last of the Nottoway Indians died. A fierce tribe of the Iroquois nation had dwindled over 350 years to one old man, illiterate, who worked as a farmhand and rode a bicycle into town for beer. William Lamb is buried near the farm where he lived and worked, on lands once granted to the Nottoway Indians by the crown of England, to be theirs forever. James Watkins (1565-1623) the son of Francis Watkins (1535-1571) and Elizabeth Lee Watkins (1543- ) a carpenter & soldier, in Talgarth, Breconshire (Brecknockshire), Wales, arrived on HMS "Phoenix" to the Colony of Virginia last from London, England on April 20, 1608. James Watkins name is on the list of passengers on the first supply ship arriving at Jamestown on April 20, 1608. He is listed as a laborer. His name does not appear in the 1623 census list. As a soldier, James Watkins is mentioned on two occasions. First, in June of the same year of his arrival, he accompanied Captain John Smith on his first expedition up the Potomac River. Second, while on Captain Smith's second expedition along the Rappahannock River, Smith's group were threatened by Indians on shore. At that time, an Indian who was being held hostage on the ship jumped overboard in an attempt to escape. James, who had been told to guard the hostage, shot the Indian. It does not state whether he killed the Indian or not, but, it appears that he did. Captain John Smith founder of the Jamestown colony in 1607. Smith named Watkins Point (near Jamestown on the Eastern Shore) for James Watkins who accompanied him on his expedition, which was in 1608. He was a member of the first surveying party of Captain John Smith, of the Jamestown Colony in Virginia. There is a statue of James Watkins located at the original site of the Jamestown Fort, listing dates and his occupation as a carpenter. National Park Service Historical Narrative: 1624...John Smith’s First Chesapeake Bay Voyage. Smith selected fourteen companions for his first voyage, probably for their skills. James Watkins and Anas Todkill were soldiers. On June 17, an ambush, however, with several hundred men emerging from the woods to shoot arrows at the Englishmen,...agreed to an exchange of hostages. Soldier James Watkins was given up to the Native men, and a parlefollowed. Smith’s Second Chesapeake Bay Voyage, Smith reduced the number of men from fourteen to twelve, and soldiers James Watkins and Anas Todkill,...also joined the second. "Captain John Smith, The Generall Historie of Virginia, New England & the Summer Isles (1624) ...Many bravadoes they made, but to appease their fury our captain prepared with as seeming a willingness (as they) to encounter them. But the grazing of our bullets upon the water (many being shot on purpose they might see them) with the echo of the woods so amazed them as down went their bows and arrows; and exchanging hostages, James Watkins was sent six miles up the woods to their king's habitation. We were kindly used of those savages of whom we understood they were commanded to betray us, by the direction of Powhatan; and he so directed from the discontented at Jamestown because our captain did cause them stay in their country against their wills..." This book is about James Watkins and his many descendants who built a new life in a new world. Göettfried Uhde most likely could perform many different skills needed in order to be able to survive in the wilderness of the colonies during the 18th century. One such skill was that of a German shoemaker.Göettfried Uhde was most likely a religious man and spoke in broken English. In 1764, he left Pennsylvania and moved south down The Waggon Road to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, the section of the county that in 1792 became Cabarrus County. There he raised a family near Adams Creek which runs North off of the Rocky River.Göettfried Uhde was buried along side his son, Cöenrad Uhde in an abandoned family cemetery located in Stanly County, North Carolina.
