Edvard Munch (1863-1944) is one of the greatest artists of the past century.  His exploration of emotional and psychological themes - of love and death, desire and loneliness, despair and anxiety - is strong pictorial form was unique in his time, heralding many of the concerns of twentieth-century society and art. Munch developed his themes in images which include The Scream, Madonna and The Sick Child in his large printmaking oeuvre.  His etchings and particularly his lithographs and woodcuts remain equal to his paintings.  Gerd Wall, Curator at the Munch Museum, Oslo puts Munch's prints into context in the text of this book, explaining their development historically, their themes and also their revolutionary technique.
