"Symptoms" is Bill Garten's 4th book of poetry and through his vivid images and confessional style his latest book explores not only why we are here, but how we have come to various points in our lives and finally how we have to accept them. Bill Garten is asking questions not only about his life, but the lives of others around him. The confessional style of this book demonstrates how the author is not afraid to hide and literally is standing naked in front of his audience. Bill is more or less saying "this is who I am" - without any false walls or pretenses.

Bill Garten's first book of poetry, Black Snow, is a book rich with imagery. Red Rain

Bill Garten's second book of poetry Red Rain, is really a continuation of Black Snow, his first book of poetry. Rich with images and thought provoking twists and turns, the reader will see how Bill is on a journey and he seems to be saying, "Come along with me" and this is where he takes you, to this foreign country of himself with its own special yet clear language. Like all his poems, Bill Garten can be understood through his poems and when you read them it is as if he is holding up a mirror, looking in it himself, and then he asks you to look in the same mirror with him simultaneously. The style of this book reminds us of other poets like James Tate and Donald Justice.

The Last Woman Love is just one emotion experienced in the journey of life, but perhaps the most powerful one of all. An award-winning writer shares his feelings on this most human of topics, offering insights through his imagery and verse. The Last Woman explores love, jealousy, rejection, loss and relationships, sometimes with whimsy and sometimes with sadness. Poem subjects range from bubble baths and cell phones to relationships and human connections. The author's deft hand with turns of phrase turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. Bill Garten Award-winning poet Bill Garten won The Emerson Prize for Poetry and The Margaret Ward Martin Prize for Creative Writing. The prolific writer, a former English professor, has taught numerous creative writing workshops. Bill has published five books of poetry: Black Snow, Red Rain, Eventually, Symptoms and Box of Pain, Box Of Fear. The Last Woman is his sixth published book of poetry. Bill, a Marietta College graduate, has published poetry across the United States in hundreds of literary magazines and academic journals such as Rattle, Hawaii Review, Asheville Poetry Review, Antietam Review, California State Poetry Quarterly, Laurel Review, The Comstock Review, Chaminade Literary Review, The Loyalhanna Review, Portland Review, Sow's Ear, Wisconsin Review, Context South and Poet Lore. In addition to his numerous publications Bill has been anthologized in Wild Sweet Notes, And Now The Magpie, and What The Mountains Yield. Bill, who now lives in Hudson, Ohio, has lived in West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, Virginia and Maryland. He is currently pursuing his MFA in Creative Writing at Ashland University. Bill also gives poetry readings and conducts creative writing workshops both domestically and internationally while continuing his education in creative writing and Spanish.
