Carlos Cruz-Diez (Caracas, 1923) promotes experimentation with color and is one of the most relevant examples of the Kinetic Art Movement. The catalogue covers Cruz-Diez's career including his beginnings as a graphic designer. The 1950s and 1960s are presented through a carefully selected group of unedited documents including magazines and catalogues that he illustrated and designed during that time period. This chapter in Cruz Diez's career directly correlates with his unique artistic language, which he continues to apply in his works today. The catalogue illustrates almost thirty works by Carlos Cruz-Diez. Their presentation takes into account the original series in which they were first exhibited. These series allow insight into the artist's personal concept and organization of his body of work. At the same time, the series reflect his incredible ambition and eagerness to experiment. His invented jargon stands out in all of the series with titles so typically Cruz-Diez such as "Chromatic induction, Physichromie Chromosaturation".

<p>The exhibition of works by Asher B. Durand (1796-1886) will be the first ever in Spain and Europe devoted to this 19th-century painter and founder of the American landscape painting school, that would soon become known as the Hudson River School. Through an important selection of 140 works-oils, drawings, and prints (Durand being a pioneer in the latter)-spanning his entire artistic career, the exhibition will reveal his genius as a landscape painter as well as the other themes he treated during his long career: portraits, genre scenes, and bucolic American landscapes. The exhibition will also include a small selection of paintings by Durand's fellow artists and followers. The majority of the works are being loaned by the New York Historical Society, which holds the most important collection of Durand's works. The project is being overseen by Dr. Linda S. Ferber, N-YHS curator and renowned expert on Durand, with the collaboration of noted scholars on Durand and 19th-century American art: Dr. Barbara Novak, Dr. Barbara Dayer Gallati, Dr. Rebecca Bedell, Dr. Roberta Olson, Dr. Marilyn Kushner, and Dr. Kimberly Orcutt.</p>

<p>This publication documents Cold America, an exhibition (Fundacion Juan March, Madrid, February - May, 2011) which expressly and systematically maps the complex and fragmented history of geometric abstraction in Latin America. The resulting map seeks to reveal not only the influence of Old World traditions on Latin American abstract artists but also their decisive break with that tradition: the rebirth of, and distinct character assumed by, geometric abstraction in Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Cuba, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela. This project's timeframe begins in 1934, with Joaquin Torres-Garcia's definitive return to Montevideo after more than four decades in Europe, and ends in 1973 with Jesus Rafael Soto's journey from Europe to his hometown of Ciudad Bol'var to inaugurate the museum designed by Carlos Raul Villanueva that bears his name. That year would also see the passing of Waldemar Cordeiro and Ivan Serpa, the Brazilian founders of the groups Ruptura and Frente.</p>
