<p>Joseph Warren was an American doctor who played a leading role in American Patriot organizations in Boston in the early days of the American Revolution. He served as president of the revolutionary Massachusetts Provincial Congress, the highest position in the revolutionary government. It was Dr. Warren who sent Paul Revere and William Dawes to spread the alarm that the British were coming to raid the town of Concord. Dr. Warren then participated in the next day's Battles of Lexington and Concord, the opening battles of the American Revolutionary War. He also fought with the American patriot forces at the Battle of Bunker Hill. His service in that battle as a volunteer rallied the troops and provided a hero to the patriot forces. Written in 1839, when some of the individuals were still living, this is a very readable and enjoyable biography of an important man intimately involved with the birth of our new nation.</p>
