<p>Presented as a diary, this book reflects Dorinda Jeynes's memories of being brought up on a hilly farm in Devon, with much of it being contrasted against the events of 1980. As well as her own story Dorinda passes on 'slices of history' handed down by her Grandparents. </p>Because of the diary form, with some items very short, some quite long, it is a book which can be 'dipped into'; it shows so many of the changes which have taken place since the period when she went to a village school in the 1920s not only in major happenings but in many small ways. This is both a readable autobiography and a historical document of the way life used to be for people in the countryside, with photographs and drawings helping to authenticate the memories behind them.
