In 1957 Yves Klein took out a patent on a certain blue, an intense brilliant ultramarine which he called International Klein Blue. His apparently identical monochrome paintings were made with sponges or rollers or in a series known as Antrhopometries, with what he called 'living brushes'--models soaked in blue paint who pressed themselves against sheets of paper.

Giovanni Anselmo

Emerging out of the Arte Povera movement of the late 1960s and 1970s, the work of Giovanni Anselmo has stood the test of time, and his sculptures have pushed the boundaries of art for more than three decades. Anselmo creates sculpture using a diverse array of materials: stone, wood, earth, cotton and even lettuce, as well as installations using slide projections. His work attempts to resolve the tensions between concepts such as the particular and the infinite, or nature and art, and does so with a remarkable combination of force and delicacy.

Working in Rome since 1956, Greek artist Jannis Kounellis (born 1936) was a seminal contributor to the Arte Povera group. Kounellis began his career as a painter; influenced by Alberto Burri and Lucio Fontana, he explored the boundaries of the medium and by 1963 was using found elements in his practice. Often monumental in scale, the artist's work unites ancient Greek themes with "poor" materials such as iron, wool, gold, jute sacks, coal, fire and even, controversially, live animals. One of his best-known works from the late 1960s incorporated 11 horses installed in the gallery. Published in conjunction with an exhibition in Bari, Italy, this monograph examines some of the artist's recent monumental evocations and explorations of the human figure and other sculptures alongside past works.

On Fire is the title of an exhibition curated by Bruno Corà, organized by the Giorgio Cini Foundation in collaboration with Tornabuoni Art, from April to July 2022, dedicated to the most evocative of nature's primary elements: fire. 
From Burri's combustions to Klein's, Arman's and Kounellis's use of gas flame, as well as Calzolari's and Parmiggiani's use of flames and smoke in different ways, the artists have explored both the destructive and generative effects of fire, using different materials, as well as ash and light, creating an innovative form of expression. 
The exhibition includes works on international loan from the most prestigious public and private collections in Europe and North America, offering thus the opportunity to see some masterpieces that have never or rarely been seen before.

Enrico Castellani was born in Castelmassa (Rovigo) in 1930. He began his artistic career in the milieu of Informale though he soon broke away from this movement. In 1959-60, in Milan, he and Piero Manzoni founded the magazine and art gallery Azimuth, which looked to the rationalist, analytic and constructivist climate emerging on the international scene.Castellani, who was specifically interested in the relation between space and light, did not hesitate to modify the actual structure of the picture, thus creating surfaces modulated by a rhythm of volumes and voids that may be constant or infinitely varied.This is the most extensive book published to date on the figure and oeuvre of Castellani. It analyzes his early 1958 drawings and canvases, his subsequent major installations and his recent works dating from 1992.
