Irish-born designer and architect Eileen Gray (1878-1976) settled in Paris in 1902 and became a leading figure in the French decorative arts of the 1910s and 1920s, creating luxurious lacquer furniture and carpets, and opening a boutique on the Faubourg St Honore. This is a comprehensive examination of her artistic production, including her early furniture and interior designs, and the beginnings of her architectural career, through a six-year collaboration with Rumanian architect Jean Badovici from 1926 to 1932.

The book explored nine realized buildings and more than 45 architectural projects from Gray's archive, including villa E. 1027 on the coast of southern France. It examines her highly original furniture and interior design, including sumptuous lacquer furniture influenced by traditional French decorative arts. This monograph places Gray in the context of contemporary movements in design and architecture as well as the social and cultural history of the twentieth century. It also includes a wealth of archival material, plans, drawings, and photographs, including many of Gray's own.
