"Lesen mit Gewinn" is designed to make the transition from grammar to reading easier, smoother, and more pleasant, while at the same time introducing the student to recognized authors of varying degrees of distinction, to diverse styles and genres of writing, and to relevant problems and experiences reflecting a German background. The emphasis is solely on a systematic increase of active German vocabulary, thus not only facilitating further reading ability but also providing a widened basis for simple speaking and writing.
