<p>Íñigo Errejón of Podemos and political theorist Chantal Mouffe here discuss the emergence of these new forces, and in particular of Podemos. They critically engage with both the older traditions and the newly emerging parties and movements; explore new ways of creating collective identities and building majorities; and reflect on the major political challenges facing the left. This is a conversation between two people who are ideally placed to draw on the earlier theoretical work of Mouffe with Ernesto Laclau, and to link it directly into the practice of the new politics.</p>

<p>En 2009, l'artiste Anna Ostoya a créé un livret avec des collages textuels à partir d'un essai de la théoricienne politique Chantal Mouffe, «Politics and Passions: The Stakes of Democracy» (2002). Dans cet essai, Mouffe a critiqué la politique alors dominante «au-delà de la gauche et de la droite» du néolibéralisme et a mis en garde contre ses dangers - la montée des partis populistes de droite. Fascinée par les idées étonnamment prophétiques de Mouffe, ainsi que par son appel audacieux à lutter contre le statu quo afin de radicaliser la démocratie et de prévenir la violence, Ostoya est revenue au livret en 2019. Elle a composé pour lui une série de portraits basés sur des croquis de personnes sur le métro de New York et sur des reproductions de ses peintures et collages de la décennie précédente. Elle a également mené une conversation avec Mouffe sur la politique des quarante dernières années, sur le moment contemporain et sur l'art, qui est incluse dans cette publication. Chantal Mouffe (née en 1943, Belgique, basée à Londres) est une militante intellectuelle surtout connue pour son travail post-marxiste et post-structuraliste sur la politique. Elle a enseigné et fait des recherches à l'Université de Westminster à Londres et dans de nombreuses universités à travers le monde. Elle a écrit For a left-populism, Agonistics, The Democratic Paradox, The Return of the Political, The Dimensions of Radical Democracy, The Challenge of Carl Schmitt, et, co-écrit avec Ernesto Laclau, Hegemony and Socialist Strategy. Anna Ostoya (née en 1978 à Cracovie, basée à New York) est une artiste dont le travail couvre de multiples traditions esthétiques et comprend la peinture, le collage, la photographie et l'écriture. Il a été présenté à l'international, à la Zacheta National Gallery, Varsovie, La Kunsthalle Mulhouse, la Biennale de Lyon 2015, Manifesta 7 Rovereto, Museum of Modern de New York, Tate St.Ives et Kunsthaus Baselland. What, today, can be understood as a critical modality of spatial practice? This question, and others, were posed to protagonists from the fields of architecture, art, philosophy, and literature by architectural theorists and curators Nikolaus Hirsch and Markus Miessen in September, 2011. The resulting 64 contributions in this inaugural volume of the Critical Spatial Practice series co presented by the Städelschule, were composed concurrently with the evictions of Occupy movements, sustained turmoil of the Arab Spring, and continued spasms in the global financial system. All point to the question of whether architecture can still be understood as a res publica. Each title in the series will include new work commissioned by invited artists here, the photographer Armin Linke.
